Visitation
Welcome
Welcome to the Visitation section of the York County Prison website. Below you will find general rules and information for visitors.
Adult Visitation
In-person visits and non-essential travel resumed Friday, December 10th, 2021 for residents in "clean" (COVID-recovered units or areas with no positive test results) housing areas. Visitors may now schedule in-person visits through ViaPath visitation scheduling. If you are unsure if your loved one is in a "clean" unit, you may call the prison and speak to a staff member in the Records Department. Due to high call volume, there may be a wait time. In most cases, your loved one can tell you via the messaging app or by phone if they are eligible for a visit.
- Visitors must be pre-approved and on an active visiting list provided by the inmate.
- Visitors must log onto the visitation scheduling app to schedule a visit. See Visitation Hours.
- Visits may be scheduled 7 days in advance, but no later than 24 hours before the proposed visit.
- Only 1 housing unit is permitted to utilize the visitation area at any given time. Each housing unit has a corresponding visitation schedule, and the available scheduling blocks will be posted.
- Visitors are not permitted in the facility if they have symptoms consistent with COVID-19, such as fever (temperature over 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit) and/or chills, cough, shortness of breath, new loss of taste or smell, or sore throat. Temperature readers are available in our visitation areas and we may mandate visitors to take a temperature reading if there is a significant rise in COVID cases in the community and/or in the facility, as directed by our medical provider and/or the community health strategists.
- All visitors are encouraged to wear a mask while inside the facility. Please be advised that masks may be mandated in the future. We are excited to reunite friends, family, and loved ones via in-person visits, but we must go about this in a safe manner. If masks are mandated, those who refuse to wear a mask will be asked to leave and the visit will be terminated.

Children between the ages of 14 and 17 may visit by themselves during adult visiting hours provided they have a signed permission slip from their parents or legal guardian. They cannot visit while school is in session unless on a school break. An Adolescent (14 to 17 years) Visitation Permission Form can be picked up at the York County Prison.
Everyone entering the prison is subject to search, per Purdon's Title 61, Section 384. Any visitor who refuses a search when requested will be denied visitation.
Children Visitation
Birth certificates or adoption papers must be shown for all children 13 years old and under on their first visit. This will be documented in the visiting computer. The resident may only have visits from their natural children (verified by a birth certificate), their adopted children (verified by adoption papers) or the primary caregiver identified by the Court (Court Order required). The parent's signatures must be on the birth certificate. If a birth certificate is not available, "certified" paperwork stating the child or children's name(s), and the incarcerated parent's name can be used in place of the birth certificate (such as welfare paperwork). Children 13 years old and under are not allowed inside the prison except during children's visiting hours. 1 adult who is on the resident's visitor list must accompany children during the visit. The accompanying adult is to assist and keep order during the children's visit. No toys, diaper bags, purses or tote bags are allowed in the visiting room. Each resident is allowed 1 children's visit per week, with the exception of residents on disciplinary status (BAU), they may receive 1 children visit every 30 days once they complete their first 30 days of BAU time.

Officials Visitation
Please be advised that we will resume attorney contact visits on Monday, June 7, 2021. Attorneys will be required to wear a mask inside of the facility. We urge attorneys to call ahead to check the status of their clients, as we will not allow residents who are COVID-positive or "presumptive positive" to attend visits outside of their quarantined housing units.
Official visitors, including but not limited to attorneys, clergy, probation/parole officers and service providers with proper identification or authorization may see residents daily between the hours of 8:45 to 11:45 am, 1 to 4:30 pm, and 6:30 to 10 pm.
Official Visitors inquiring about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainees must get authorization from ICE officials or have a G-28 form on file. The ICE public number is 717-840-7253.
The preferred method of identification for attorneys is a state bar card verifying their bar membership. However, if they do not have such a card, the attorney shall be required to present another document verifying their bar membership.
A legal representative (not an attorney) shall be required to provide documentation such as a G-28 and/or authorization on company letterhead allowing the individual to act on behalf of the attorney.
Attorneys wanting an interpreter, private investigator, legal representatives/legal assistants, or a medical professional to accompany them during their visit or wanting them to visit with their client(s) on their behalf must request permission from the York County Prison Intelligence Office for these individuals to enter the secure area of the prison. Email the York County Prison Intelligence Office.
All requests must be made within at least 48 business hours in advance. Please be advised that a court order may be required for certain electronic equipment and/or devices as well as for outside medical providers to enter the secure area of the prison.
All requests for immigration status detainees will require approval through Immigration officials so this may take longer to obtain a security clearance.
Once a security clearance is generated, the requesting party will receive a confirmation email.
Official Visitor Rules for Entering into the Prison
No weapons, food, chewing gum, drinks, cell phones, computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs), recorders or any other electronic components including watches, pendants or any other form are allowed to be brought in the prison. Professional visitors must strictly adhere to the same rules that apply to other visitors.
It is extremely important that professional visitors understand that no one, without exception, is allowed to hand anything directly to an resident . An officer, shift supervisor or a member of the administration must examine every item before the item is given to the resident. There are no exceptions to this policy. This includes legal documents, medical documents, books, magazines, pamphlets, and photographs.
Professional visitors are prohibited from having a contact visit with any relatives (by blood or marriage) or persons with whom they have or have had a personal relationship. The exercise of visitation is a privilege that may be revoked if any of the rules of visitation are violated. It is important to understand that security is of utmost importance and that the delivery advertently or inadvertently of any contraband item is strictly prohibited and this rule is not changed by the confidential nature of the relationship of the resident and their visitor.
Everyone entering the prison is subject to search, per Purdon's Title 61, Section 384. Any visitor who refuses a search when requested will be denied visitation.
Video Visitation
The goal of video visitation is to provide resident, their families, friends, legal advisors and others another option to communicate. Video visitation allows individuals to communicate with a resident remotely instead of traveling to the prison.
Costs
- Personal visits are $15 for 0 to 30 minutes
- Professional visits are $25.20 for 0 to 30 minutes or $50.40 for 31 to 60 minutes.
